Richard M. “Rick” Pietrowski, 62, died March 19, 2018, at Ebeid Hospice Residence. Born June 5, 1955, to Melvin and Patricia (Jendrzejak) Pietrowski, Rick married Kathleen Collins on May 10, 1985 and they had a daughter, Marisha.
He loved traveling from a young age, and took his family on many trips throughout the country. Rick turned his love of trains into a career, working for Amtrak for 16 years. He loved his job, selling tickets and boarding passengers at the Toledo, Detroit and Cleveland Amtrak stations. Rick was a member of the Transportation Communication Union (TCU).
After joining Amtrak, Rick utilized his rail pass, enjoying more train travel. In April 2016, he and Marisha were in Los Angeles when he fell, leaving him an incomplete quadriplegic. He tried to regain motion through many months of physical therapy, but infections and other medical issues weakened him.
In addition to his time at Amtrak, Rick loved music and worked in radio, including stints at WOHO, 3WM and K100 for more than 30 years.
Rick is survived by his caring wife, Kathy, daughter Marisha, brother, John (Diane) Pietrowski, niece, Elana and numerous cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., Monday, March 26, 2018, at the Michael W. Pawlak Funeral Home, 1640 Smith Rd. (at Jackman) Temperance, MI, where a memorial service will follow at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the family’s GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses. www.pawlakfuneralhome.com
